On Tuesday, July 16, ten of us hiked to the summit of Jefferson (5712). We used the Caps Ridge Trail. It is only 2.5 miles each way but the vertical gain is 2700 feet so it is steep in many sections.
The weather was interesting. It started out foggy with a bit of a breeze and temperature around 70. The higher we climbed, the cooler it became. At the summit, it was still very foggy and the temp was in the upper 50s. The wind picked up so we ate snacks in the lee of the summit.
For seven hikers in the group, it was their first time on the summit of Jefferson. It was a stretch to handle the weather, the steepness, the slippery trail due to the fog, the misting glasses and the inability to see the destination. During the descent, the sky did clear up and provide some decent views. The temperature also got warmer.

It was a nice, clear, and slightly warm but low humidity day for a hike up Mt Osceola, over to the east peak (both on the 48 4K list), and back down. Below at the summit ledges are Meg, Dick, Becky, Jon, and Wharton.
