The Turtles hiked Mt. Rowe in the Belknap Range on Aug. 31. It was a nice day, with the lower humidity making for a great hike.

Pat and Dick hiked up the Rocky Gorge Trail to the totally open 4,802 foot summit of Moosilauke on a nice hiking day. There were a number of other hikers up top, too. For the descent, they took the Carriage Road trail down to where the Glencliff trail ties in. Also at that intersection is where the short trail to the south summit begins, which they took in as a side trip, for its views. Then it was back to the Carriage Road and down to the Snapper trail, which took them back to the Rocky Gorge trail. The hike marked the completion of Dick's "over 75" round. Below is Pat at the top.
Maybe it was the weather (warm/hot, humid), and perhaps the prospect of doing a 10+ mile hike with over 5,000 feet of elevation gain in that weather. But only Doug and Dick did this hike, and by separate routes. Doug went up the King Ravine Trail (one of the "Terrifying 25") to Airline and Mt Adams, then down to the Madison hut and up Madison. Meanwhile, Dick went up Valley Way to the hut and Madison, then up to Adams, before the long descent back to the hut and out Valley Way. Starting by 8am got the climb up through the low woods done before things got too hot, and up above treeline things were at most in the low 70s and somewhat breezy where exposed. Below is the view from the Gulfside Trail looking back at the Madison hut, with the peak looming above it.
Pat, Ginger, Larry, John, Doug B., Dick, and Brad (Dick's grandson) hiked up Osceola from Tripoli Rd. The day was quite nice, with long views. Then five of us "went the extra mile" (figuratively and literally), over to East Osceola for lunch. Then it was back to the main peak and on down to the cars. We didn't get any group photos, but here are Larry and Pat going back up the "chimney" at the start of the hike back up Osceola from the col between peaks.
