July 5th, two of the OTHH hikers made the LONG drive up towards Canada to hike the short 2.2 mile hike up Mt. Magalloway. The drive to this hike is part of the adventure... and the sudden spike in temperatures certainly added to it as well. The fire-tower offers great views.
An overnight stay allowed an opportunity to add Sugarloaf to the trip with some added company. The heat spiked to 90 degrees, and the steep climb and elevation gain got the better of one of our hikers. Keeping with the buddy system, 2 made the safe decision to turn around a half mile from the summit. (There was still plenty of elevation gain to tackle, and heat stress / exhaustion is not something to take lightly).
The views from Sugarloaf are great, we saw the belly stove, and enjoyed lunch with a view. The plunge in the Nash Stream following the hike was a great reward, as was the ice cream! Happy Hiking everyone.
