Hancocks - June 25, 2024

There was a good turnout for a hike up North and South Hancock mountains. The trail begins with a couple of easy miles from the hairpin turn parking lot on the Kanc to the Cedar Brook Trail, which we followed a way, and with a bit more steepness, to the Hancock Loop Trail. Then it was up, up, and up, steeply, to the north peak. After a snack and photos at the nice outlook there, we continued on the fairly easy 1.4 miles over to the south peak, where we had lunch. Pictured below, after lunch at the south peak, are Wharton, Meg, Michele, Dick, and Pat. Not shown are Pam and Bob S., who already had started down. Lunch done, we picked our way slowly down the very steep and rocky half mile to the loop junction, then out to the cars.

On June 25, the Turtles had a beautiful day for a hike to the top of Mt. Katherine on the Pasture Path; we then came down via the Tilton Spring Path, the McCrillis Path, and the Blueberry Ledge trail.

Here is the view from the top of Mt. Katherine:

June 18, 2024 Carters

The forecast called for a hot day and it was. Being in the woods, with a bit of a breeze at times, and up at elevation helped to cool things down a bit. Six of us hiked the Carter range. Marie, Pat, Doug and Dick hiked South and Middle Carter while Pam and Steve continued their hike to Carter Dome. The views were a bit hazy but we could see some snow that still lingered on Washington and Jefferson.

Below are Steve, Pat, Doug, Marie, Dick and Pam.

Turtles on the Move!

On June 18th, thirteen hikers ascended the Hamlin Forest yellow trail to Crockett's Ledge to view Lake Wicwas and the surrounding area. Despite the warm temps and bugs, everyone enjoyed the hike.

June 11, 2024 Mt. Hale

The A hike on Tuesday June 11 was to Mt. Hale in Zealand. The summit is 4054 feet high and does not provide much of a view. It didn't matter much as the summit was in the clouds when we were there. The trail was in decent condition. And it didn't rain!

We used the typical trail, the Hale Brook trail, which is 2.2 miles each way. This makes Hale one of the easier NH 4000 footers.

Below are Cathy, Marie, Dick, Pat, Doug, Pam and Steve.

The Turtles' first hike on June 11 to Lockes Hill.  A beautiful day for the wonderful view of The Lake, especially from the stone seats.
