After "warming up" on hikes to Red Hill, the Belknaps, and South Moat to kick off the group's spring hiking season, nine of us took the Piper Trail to the top of Chocorua. Three others went up via the Champney Falls Trail, from the Kancamagus Highway. After lunch up top and descent from the summit cone, a few of us took the side trail up to Middle Sister (another 52WAV), then retraced and continued on back down Piper. For those of us doing both peaks, this was a ten-mile, 3000 ft hike, admittedly aggressive for so early in the season. But that helps condition us for hikes yet to come. Below, at the top, are (front) Ginger, (next row) Wharton, Michele, Pat, Jane, Dick, Pam, Larry, Steve M., and (rear) patsy, Steve V., Doug.
