Tuesday Turtles hike Mt Katherine

Tuesday the Turtles headed out to Wonalancet to hike Mt Katherine. After a wonderful send off by Sue Speers in the library parking lot, we all climbed into Jane's car. We met up with Betsy at the trailhead and started up the trail, singing as we hiked! There is a wonderful open, spring fed well at the  half way point and we were rewarded at the summit with a sweeping view of Chocorua in the distance. We celebrated with another Sue Speers tradition of cheetos at the top. We took a different trail down -which turned out to be a bit swampy- but we had fun identifying all the flora and fauna along the way. (Yes, we made up names to those we didn't know!) After, it was off to Tamworth and The Other Store for well deserved ice cream on their back porch.

Mt. Willard

What a view of Crawford Notch!

Fantastic hike, very little effort for such a view... a bit of mud, but we've had A LOT of rain in the past few weeks, so the trail condition is what you should expect, given the late weather.  A definite hike to enjoy and repeat.  I bet it would be magnificent in the fall!  hmm... there's an idea!

Trail Maintenance

10 of us gathered to do cleanup on the Bear Camp River Trail.  We had one bloody lip, a thousand mosquitos, and accomplished cleaning up the trail from Mead Base Camp to Route 113.  The trail is in good shape, with a few blow downs to attend too.  Thank you to all who volunteered!

Big Rock Cave

"B" Group, out for some river crossings, mud and a lot of downed trees.  This hike was a bit of a challenge this early in the season.  It was certainly affected by the amount of rain we've had, followed by a good winter, and some significant storms.  The mileage was a leap forward from our 3.5 we had done after winter.  This hike doing the loop clockwise ended just under 6 miles.  It was rewarding, but we all thought it was a bit more than we expected.

Hiking season has begun...

Enjoying the hiking, even if there's a good bit of mud, lot's of bugs, and oh, those ticks!  The views make it enjoyable, and the camaraderie makes it even better!
