Oct 10th, 2018, "A" Group Hikes Owl's Head

Jeanne O'Callaghan, John Buckley and Doug Wright hiked to the summit of Owl's Head. Jeanne is a newcomer to the OTHH and the "A" group. We started hiking at 7:15, taking the Black Pond bushwhack on the way up. There was some degree of difficulty following the bushwhack with all the leaves covering the path but we made our way to the point where the real trail crosses the river. We summited between 12:30 and 1:00. We took the Brutus bushwhack on the way down, but not any other bushwhacks, and were back at the car by 6:30. We didn't need to use headlamps but it was getting quite dark when we arrived at the car.

The picture below is of Owl's Head from the summit of Little Haystack on the  Franconia Ridge. The slide is easily seen just to the right of center.

The picture above is of Doug, Jeanne and John at the summit of Owl's Head with the summit cairn. You would think that after hiking over 9 miles there would be a bigger cairn.

Franconia Ridge, September 27th, 2018

Doug (one of our A group hikers), did a solo hike on the Franconia Ridge. He took a clockwise route going by the Greenleaf Hut, Lafayette, Lincoln and Little Haystack. The weather was great and the views included Camel's Hump in Vermont and Mt. Washington.

The picture below is of Doug on top of Lafayette with Mt Washington in the distance.

2018 Fall Potluck

This year's fall potluck is scheduled for Thursday, Oct 25th at Mead Base Conservation Center (517 Diamond Ledge Rd, Center Sandwich, NH) for an 11:30 arrival, with lunch at noon.

Please bring a dish to share.  There is a sign up sheet available at: OTHH POTLUCK SIGN UP SHEET. (Best accessed through a regular computer, verses a cell phone or iPad.).  If you have trouble with the sign up sheet, no worries, you can email me what you would like to bring, and I can add it for you if you would like.

I will provide beverages, plates / bowls, utensils, and napkins.

No RSVP is necessary, and the invitation is for all those past and present hikers, including those who wish to become more involved with the OTHH group in the future.

This will close out the 39th year of the OTHH season, and next year we will welcome the 40th year for the OTHH group.  Quite the accomplishment.

If you have any questions, please drop me an email, otherwise I look forward to seeing you on the 25th, of October, or before!

The Sandwich Fair, 2018

A wonderful turnout to march in the Sandwich Fair Parade.  Of course we kept with tradition, and took first place in our category.  Thank you to everyone who turned out.

Cannon Mt - September 30, 2018

Ellen's Cannon hike was moved up by later weather concerns and to enable her three sons to join her as she completed both her eighth round and her over-70 round of the 48 4000 footers. In the pics below they pose on "the ladder" high up on the mountain and again atop the summit tower, with Lafayette and Lincoln across the notch. Pics by Dick.
