Black Mountain Pond & NHPR!!

On Aug 3, 2017, a large group of Over the Hill Hikers gathered along the Sandwich Notch Rd to hike to Black Mountain Pond.  It was a special reunion of hikers, who enjoyed an easier trail on a hot and humid day.   We were joined by NHPR's Virgina Prescott who interviewed many of the hikers along the way for an upcoming story she is working on.

The group included a few additional hikers that turned around at some point during the 8 mile round trip hike.  Those present from L to R are: Dick, Peter, Jane, Deb, Tracy, Nancy (in back), Shirley, PJ, Peggy, Mark, and Jean, as we all posed following a lunch break at Black Mt. Pond.  Photo taken by Susan.

A group hikes Flume & Liberty, 8/1/2017

A challenging last mile up to the summit of Flume via the Flume Slide Trail led to Tracy's #8 of the 4,000 footers.   What a fantastic view at the top of Liberty.  A tiring 10.2 mile loop, left us all feeling good about the day.

Attn: Friday Walkers!

Greetings,

This announcement is intended for the Friday walkers.

In the past the Friday walks have always been just a drop in sort of situation ...9:30 at the Sandwich Library.....but lately as fewer Sandwich walkers have been participating it leaves the "leader" without anyone to "lead", and puts them making a trip in to town needlessly.

SOOOO... to help with planning purposes, it is now requested that those who plan to participate call the published leader of the walk by 8:00am Friday morning if they intend to walk.
Your consideration is GREATLY appreciated!

on behalf of the Friday walkers...Thank you.

On top of Whiteface looking north

On Thursday it was off to the Belknap Range for the B Group. We had 12 hikers and a 2 summit challenge. First was up and over to Whiteface. This is the last mountain in the Belknap Trails if you are starting at Mount Major. There are excellent views to the north and west from the summit. After picking blueberries along the way (yes, there were a lot that were ready to be picked) we headed over to Piper for lunch. From Piper you can see over 28 summits.
