July 24, 2023 - Mt Moosilauke

The “A Hikers” had a great day on Monday, July 24, up Mt Moosilauke and its South Peak.
Considering all the rain we have received this summer the trail was in very good condition. There was some mud in places but easily avoidable. I had envisioned having rivers going down parts of the trail.

All nine of us on the hike are shown in the above summit photo. In front are Dick and Pam; in the middle row are Ashley, Kimberly, Mateo, Jane, and Deb; in back are Kaitlyn and Andy. Leanne, who organized the hike, was supposed to join us but unfortunately was unable to make it at the last minute. The age range was from mid 20s to late 70’s, and having the"young'uns" on the hike was so nice. They added more hair color to our gray haired group.

Moosilauke showed her splendor. The 360 degree views were stunning. It was a bit hazy, but you could pick out a lot of the peaks to the east. And the weather was close to perfect. It was sunny with a slight breeze throughout the hike and not too hot. What was really great was that there were very few bugs on the top, which made eating lunch so pleasant. We were able to spend our time eating, looking at the views, socializing, and not swatting at bugs.

It was a wonderful day of hiking in the White Mountains. We are so lucky to have these mountains in our backyard. [writeup by Pam]
