Today, 9 hikers checked out the newly made parking lot to the Mt Kinsman Trail and hiked up to the ledges of Bald Peak. It was a beautiful 2.4 mile (one way) hike, with gentle elevation gain, and amazing open views. We crossed two small water crossings, and on the way down took the side trail to the Flume, which is very impressive.
While the new parking fees are a bit of a pill to swallow, $10.00 for NH plates, $20.00 for out of state plates, and a 50% discount for Veterans plates, Tamarack Recreation is doing a nice job to create a parking lot, and make improvements. There were envelopes available for the drop box, and there was also a Venmo option.
As we left the parking lot to hike to Bald Peak, the initial trail did not have blazes or signage for reassurance. We came to a part in the trail where it was not clear which direction we should go, but our app maps (both Gaia and All Trails) assisted, as well as consulting with a paper map. I do think better markings would help.
Overall it was a great day, with lovely people and delicious cookies courtesy of our hiking buddy Mary. Thank you, Mary!
