Two OTHH hikers hiked Mt Cube from Baker Farm Rd in Orford on the Cross-Rivendell Trail.
The
trail was a combination of switchbacks and ledges. What surprised us
was the leaves underfoot were not deep, plentiful or slippery. On
the summit there were great views in all directions. One could see
forever. We looked around, took pictures and had a snack. We
did not sit for long as it was very chilly on top. We saw one person
coming up onto the summit as we were getting ready to head down. It was a little sketchy heading down on the ledges, but it went by quickly. We
had a good day, with lots of chatter and laughter about little things that we seem to do alike.
I
had not hiked this trail since the name changed in 2003. It used to be
South Cube Trail and went straight up with no switchbacks. Yet
I have hiked Mt Cube many times. I have always hiked it from Quintown
Road, a trail that has beautiful wildflowers in the spring.
Below are Donna and Marie at the top.
